Director, Robotic C2 System & Compliance SWE Lead
Deus X Defense (DXD) reveals what others cannot see. We transform uncertainty into clarity and danger into control. With drones, awareness technology, and unmatched defense expertise, we give organizations foresight and speed to protect what matters most.
Our team of elite military, law enforcement, and technology veterans help customers move from vulnerability to assurance by outpacing threats before they surface. We deliver the confidence that people and assets are protected with intelligence that identifies, confirms, and responds to threats within seconds.
MissionWe exist to protect what matters most: Those people, places, and institutions that make our way of life possible and enable people to go about their life without the tyranny of determined and unchecked evil.
VisionOur vision is to deliver a future where fear and terror are no longer viable because intelligent systems, governed by human judgement, operating under our legal frameworks stand ready to identify and deter/stop violence before it occurs.
Position OverviewWe're seeking a Director, Remote Security Operations & Compliance SWE Lead who thrives in the 'do more with less' startup environment. You've been through the chaos of hypergrowth, understand the art of technical debt management, and can build robust systems with limited resources while maintaining the flexibility to pivot quickly.
Mission-Critical Role ScopeCore Mission: Be the technical architect and hands-on builder of our unified C2 platform that transforms multiple COTS solutions (Alpha Z, Drone Sense, VMS systems) into a single pane of glass for remote operators. You'll be the startup engineer who can architect enterprise-grade systems while still writing code and managing scrappy contract teams.
The Startup Reality: You'll wear multiple hats—system architect, hands-on developer, team builder, vendor negotiator, and occasional firefighter. This is the kind of role where you might be debugging API integrations in the morning and presenting architecture decisions to customers in the afternoon.
Key ResponsibilitiesHands-On Systems Architecture & Development
Design and personally code critical components of the unified C2 platform integrating Alpha Z orchestration, VMS systems, drone control software, and edge analytics.
Make smart technical debt decisions—balancing when to build scrappy versus when to invest in scalable architecture patterns.
Build MVP versions of complex integrations that can evolve as requirements change.
Balance rapid iteration with system reliability for mission-critical security operations.
Scrappy Team Building & Remote Management
Identify, evaluate, and manage lean contract engineering teams (2–3 contractors versus 15+ employees) to maximize output per dollar.
Build engineering processes that enable distributed teams to succeed without unnecessary bureaucracy.
Make build-versus-buy decisions that optimize for speed and resource constraints while maintaining flexibility.
Scale engineering capacity through smart use of contractors, open-source tools, and strategic partnerships.
Network Security & Compliance
Implement security architectures that meet critical infrastructure requirements without over-engineering.
Build adaptable security compliance frameworks that can evolve from startup MVP to enterprise-grade as customer needs mature.
Design secure communication protocols for BLoS drone operations that balance safety with operational speed.
Maintain the balance between adequate security for early customers and full compliance readiness for scale.
Integration & Customer Success
Lead hands-on integration with partner platforms while building scalable processes beyond individual contribution.
Work directly with early customers to understand operational requirements and iterate quickly based on feedback.
Build deployment and support processes that enable field teams to operate independently with minimal engineering intervention.
Ensure clarity of success metrics so outcomes are measurable week-to-week.
Basic Qualifications8–12 years in operations leadership with at least 5+ years managing robotic systems, drone fleets, or autonomous operations centers.
ROC/Operations Center Experience: Built and operated robotics operations centers, drone fleet management systems, or autonomous vehicle monitoring centers.
Startup Operations Experience: 4–6 years building operations from scratch in startup/scale-up environments, understanding resource constraints and rapid scaling challenges.
Additional QualificationsReal-Time Systems Coordination: Experience coordinating multiple autonomous systems in operational environments—drones, robots, or automated industrial systems.
Fleet Management: Managed operational fleets of 20+ autonomous systems including maintenance scheduling, deployment coordination, and performance optimization.
Technology Operations: Experience with IoT devices, edge computing, network-connected systems, or industrial automation in operational environments.
Field Operations Management: Deployed and supported complex technology systems across multiple sites with distributed field teams.
Customer-Facing Operations: Managed operations that directly impact customer satisfaction and contractual performance commitments.
Drone Operations Platforms: Familiarity with drone fleet management software (DroneDeploy, AirHub, Aloft, FlyFreely) and understanding of BLoS operations requirements.
Robotics Systems: Understanding of robotics operating systems (ROS), robot coordination, and autonomous navigation systems.
Monitoring & Analytics: Experience with operational dashboards, real-time monitoring systems, and alert management platforms.
Communication Systems: Knowledge of secure communications.
SOC/GSOC Experience.
Physical Security Operations.
Emergency Response Coordination.
Critical Infrastructure Protection.
