Careers
Robotics Hardware Integration Engineer
OverviewAs the Robotic Hardware Integration Lead, you will design, build, and deploy the hardware systems that allow Deus X Defense to turn commercial robotic platforms into mission-ready autonomous security assets. You understand how to operate inside a resource-constrained, high-urgency startup environment—rapidly prototyping concepts, integrating sensors and payloads, and field-hardening systems so they perform flawlessly in the environments where our customers operate.
In this role, you bridge the gap between cutting-edge robotics hardware and the real-world requirements of 24/7 security missions. You’ll work hands-on across mechanical, electrical, and systems integration while building a lightweight but high-performing hardware organization around you. Whether you’re designing a custom payload, evaluating a new OEM platform, troubleshooting a field deployment, or negotiating with suppliers, your work will directly impact how DXD deploys autonomous systems across critical infrastructure.
Your leadership will set the standard for how DXD builds hardware: fast, reliable, safe, field-ready, and optimized for scale. You will be central to the mission of transforming COTS robotic platforms into systems that protect what matters most.
What You DoHardware Integration & Rapid Prototyping
Lead integration of OEM robotics platforms (Boston Dynamics, Skydio, Unitree, Clearpath) with custom payloads, sensors, and communication systems
Prototype and build mechanical solutions including mounts, enclosures, brackets, and power systems using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other rapid fabrication methods
Develop custom payload integrations for drones and ground robots (LIDAR, thermal, cameras, etc.)
Build field-hardened hardware systems designed for outdoor, mission-critical uptime
Iterate quickly from concept → prototype → field-ready hardware
Technology Scouting & Make/Buy Decisions
Evaluate emerging robotics hardware, sensors, and integration components based on mission needs
Make smart build-vs-buy decisions under tight timelines and budgets
Establish and maintain relationships with key OEM partners
Identify technologies that can provide competitive advantages or accelerate product readiness
Field Deployment & Customer Integration
Lead hands-on deployment of integrated hardware systems at customer sites
Build deployment playbooks and training materials for operations teams
Troubleshoot issues in real-world environments and implement rapid, reliable fixes
Adapt hardware solutions to meet unique customer operational constraints
Team Building & Process Development
Build and manage a lean team of engineers, technicians, and contractors
Create hardware development processes that balance speed, safety, and reliability
Manage external vendors, fabrication shops, and specialized suppliers
Establish documentation and design standards that support scale and consistency
